The Expressive Path

A journey for painters in search of clarity, confidence, and inspiration.

Unapologetically you.

Express freely. Paint with confidence.

For painters who want to develop their own authentic style with confidence.

Break through creative blocks, refine your technique, and feel inspired in your practice.

Hi, I’m Julia Evangeli — painter, coach, and guide for artists on their expressive path.

I help painters develop real confidence in their own unique style, combining classical training with mindset tools that spark clarity and momentum.

Whether you’re just starting out or years into your journey, I work with artists who feel blocked, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward.

The expressive path

Every artist is completely unique.

The Expressive Path is not a one-size-fits-all — it’s a personal journey, shaped around your needs, your style, and where you are right now.

Whether you’re a beginner picking up a brush for the first time or a more experienced painter feeling stuck, I meet you exactly where you are and guide you forward.

Together, we create a process that works for you — so you can develop your skills, trust your instincts, and paint in a way that feels completely your own.

My approach blends solid painting skills across a range of styles and mediums with deep, intuitive exploration.

The philosophy behind my work integrates both expression and structure. It’s about learning the skills and tools you need to create while also overcoming the emotional blocks that hinder your creativity.

And above all, it’s based around PLEASURE. Painting should be a joy.

A peaceful space to paint, breathe, and begin again.

A Creative Escape in the Heart of Spain — and Online, Wherever You Are

Hidden away in the quiet valley village of Benidoleig, Alicante, my studio offers a gentle pause from the everyday — a place to reconnect, express, and create. It’s a warm, welcoming space filled with colour, music, and the occasional cat curled up beside your easel.

Experience the pleasure of painting

This is your time.

My sessions aren’t about everyone producing the same work. Each artist is unique, and my job is to bring out your individual style, help you find your voice, and make you feel confident in what you create.

Styles, Subjects and mediums

With years of experience and training, I work with a variety of subjects and mediums, including portraits, landscapes, abstracts, and figurative work.

In my classes, we primarily use oils, acrylics, mixed media, inks, and watercolours.

I teach the process of painting—YOUR process of painting. Once you understand this concept, you can apply it to any medium or subject matter.

.

Learning fundamental techniques is crucial, and we cover a lot of that!
My goal is to help you discover your unique style and find the subjects and materials you truly love.

In addition to technique, I’m also a fully certified life coach, so I can guide you through the emotional side of creating, with a focus on mindset and confidence.

Expression vs structure

I’ve always believed that great painting comes from the balance between the head and the heart. It’s not all wild mark-making, and it’s not just technical drills either. One without the other leaves something missing. I teach both — structure that supports your expression, and expression that gives life to your structure. It’s in the middle, where these two meet, that your true voice starts to emerge.

Some artists need strong foundations. Others need help letting go. Many need both. Together, we create a process that works for you — so you can develop your skills, trust your instincts, and paint in a way that feels completely your own.

“I have been a student of Julia’s for at least fourteen years, and in all my years of learning, I have never had such an incredible teacher.

My paintings have sold to many parts of the world, and Julia has always been my guiding light.

She is young, dynamic and gutsy, and her free spirit reflects her teaching methods. This in turn brings out the best in every student – beginners, intermediate and advanced.

I may be a professional artist, but my classes with Julia are a vital part of my life.

Julia has always been a terrific inspiration, and her beautiful work adorns the walls of her studio.

My own work has changed beyond recognition having worked in such an environment, and our great teacher stretches me to the limit – what more could I want…..”

I began my journey with Julia about 4 years ago when I did a back-to-basics class that reminded me how much I used to like drawing many moons ago. That was just the start. Seeing all the other wonderful students around me I felt inspired… Oil painting seemed way out of my league so Julia said I could start with acrylics, though she predicted that once I tried oils I would totally fall in love with them. She was right, of course. She always is! And not just about painting… I am often amazed by how my experiences with the canvas are so interestingly reflected in my inner life. The canvas is like a magnifying mirror for my innermost fears – as the challenges arise in my paintings, I can feel and acknowledge the thoughts, limiting beliefs, and emotions that arise and, with Julia’s expert help, work through and master them both within and without. It’s win win win. As I learn to loosen up and become a better painter, I also gain self-knowledge and inner confidence. Plus I end up with some nice paintings on my walls! I love Julia, she is a wonderful artist and mentor, and I feel very blessed to have her as my teacher and guide on this amazing journey. She’s the best!

‘’When the student is ready, the teacher will appear’ (Tao Te Ching) – well, that was so true for me!

I resisted for about two years before stepping through Julia’s doors. A friend had recommended her but when I saw this friend’s paintings I thought ‘no way’ – I couldn’t possibly paint like that! I had never considered myself particularly creative and my drawing was still at stick- man stage.

I started from nothing about 8 years ago (at over 60) and have never looked back. Wow what a journey!

Julia has created an amazing space (whether in her actual studio or even online) that has enabled me to reach deep into my emotions and have that wonderful realisation that I CAN be free, and CAN express myself (on canvas or elsewhere), and that there is no right or wrong. She has been instrumental in holding my hand on this amazing journey and I am deeply grateful to her.

I am at the stage now when I can just enjoy the journey, have fun, and have nothing to prove to anyone. I never stop learning and Julia has a constant stream of new ideas with brilliant workshops to keep us on our toes!

Painting has been so liberating for me and beats therapy any time! Julia has such a special gift and I can’t recommend her enough. I have been blessed to find her, and even if I lose my mojo from time to time (which I believe even professional artists do!), I know that as soon as I step inside her studio, the magic returns.

THANK YOU JULIA – YOU’VE BEEN A BRIGHT SHINING LIGHT IN MY LIFE!

What can I say about Julia that doesn’t sound like she’s behind me with a paint brush ready to rap me on the knuckles if I’m not effusive enough?

However, to say that Julia has changed my life is not an exaggeration. Yes, she has taught me to draw more than a straight line, yes, she has taught me to observe (a work in progress), yes, she has taught me, having taught me to observe, to break the rules, to be free and expressive and to love my work enough that I can shrug my shoulders and paint over it if I’m not happy.

But it is much more than that, she coaches and cajoles, and recognises when her students aren’t on form or need to be challenged today. She challenges your ‘story’. You know, I can’t draw, I can’t paint, I can’t tell one yellow from another, I can’t do this, I’m not creative, I’m not worthy! Well, I’m here to tell you that you can do all of these things under Julia’s tuition, and you are creative and you are worthy.

Sign up now and enjoy the ride, it’ll be a blast. P.S. she’s also as mad as a box of frogs… ouch!

Julia’s magical way of teaching is a person-centred, holistic approach which is tailored to the individual. Everything is considered. It is a beautiful experience to have such an enabling presence guide and value one’s processes whilst taking into consideration other factors of your life, should one wish to share them.

Julia’s studio is a very special place, it gives me a space to explore, play and focus in a stress-free environment. A Space Just For Me. There is no judgement, only permission, fun and positive guidance on request.

If you want to learn the traditional fundamentals of painting,

If you want to discover your magic and rediscover your inner child,

If you want to take a deep-dive into your soul,

If you want to take risks, play safe, dance, focus, zone out, find flow state, dabble, learn new techniques, laugh, cry, sing,

If you want to go beyond what you thought you could ever dream possible and enjoy the journey (Julia, this word popped in, thanks to spellcheck!witchlike ) with like-minded souls to cheer you along,

I cannot recommend Julia and her wonderful, welcoming studio highly enough. I look forward to meeting you soon!

‘Having Julia as my Art tutor has been a life changing experience. She is as creative with her teaching as she is in her art, and her support goes beyond transmitting her technical knowledge. Julia’s guidance has been and continues to be the most valuable tonic for my mental and emotional well-being’

I vaguely remember last holding a paintbrush when i was about 11, 54 years ago.
To have my own paintings on the wall at home , painted by me is testimony to Julia’s teaching and my willingness to learn and do. I believe most people can paint, once they know the basic ingredients, and once they find a good teacher and a little bit of patience with themselves! thank you Julia i can now see the light !
